Hi, I’m Raisha! I’m a junior in Franklin College and an Anthropology major. I’m taking this course because I’ve always wanted to learn more about Southeast Asia since it is such a diverse region that has often been involved in the events of recent history. I’ve been particularly interested in studying atrocities and genocides in societies for a while and my research invariably takes me to some of the countries of Southeast Asia. I would like to learn about these countries and societies beyond their trauma and delve into the cultures, the people, and even the causes of day-to-day social unrest or how countries that have previously endured trauma have learned to move forward. I’m excited to have this course challenge some of the beliefs I’ve previously held and just to learn more about places I rarely get the chance to really hear about beyond their implication in the affairs of more powerful countries, such as China, Japan, European countries, and America.
