Nicole Westfall joins the class

Hi everyone! I’m Nicole, a sophomore in Hopper College, and I’m half Filipino and half American, planning on majoring in Film and Media Studies, but also looking into double majors like ERM or Anthropology. I’ve lived in Manila, Philippines for almost my entire life before coming to Yale, but I strictly attended international schools. For this reason I’ve never studied Southeast Asia, or the Philippines, in an academic setting—despite going to school IN the Philippines. I’m really excited to take this class to finally get a formal education on the region, and to make sense of what I see happening around me—zooming in from Manila—today. I’ve also been planning on writing a screenplay set in Manila, interspersing the Marcos era with the Duterte era, and I feel this course will also be super helpful for that!
