Orven Mallari joins the class

Hi, my name is Orven (pronouns: they/them) and I am happy to be a part of the Modern Southeast Asia class for the 2020 Fall semester. I am senior in Pierson, majoring in Environmental Engineering. As an immigrant from the Philippines, I have spent an equal amount of time living in rural Pampanga and in Jacksonville, Florida (home to a significant Filipino-American enclave). I took this class to broaden their knowledge of the Southeast Asia region, inspired by a seminar that I took last semester about the role of religion and art in Philippine rebellion. In this context, I hope to learn more about the post/neocolonial effects on other countries in the region. My hobbies include being an Arsenal Football Club fan and watching anime.
