Seafood Companies Have Trouble Selling Their Fish Following the Formosa Disaster

Seafood companies from the provinces affected by the Formosa disaster are asking management agencies to perform safety tests on their fish inventories. They are hoping that the government will also buy or destroy their stock of frozen fish that have been stored for five months since the accident. The cost of storing fish is not cheap, and one company noted that the monthly electric bill for storing the fish is a little over US$13,000. And while some companies’ fish are already determined to be safe to eat, they are still having difficulty selling their fish.
With respect to the lack of transparency from the government in the days following the disaster, it seems justified that the people fear eating the fish. Furthermore there should be more programs and aid for the fishing companies of Vietnam, as fish in the sea will be unsafe to eat for a long time.
